My current series of paintings is about the natural organic elements and manmade constructivist elements. I utilize my observation of these two worlds, one seemingly solid and sharp and the other random and rich in color and in possession of an infinite array of possibilities. They merge in some areas and collide in others. Color applied opaquely or transparently is also derived from horticulture . These ever-present, ever-changing visuals work their way into my paintings. The spaces are divided and then compartmentalized only to be opened so that the eye can be led to the other areas. Some parts have many directions in which the eye can escape to see the adjacent area. My work is not narrowly defined except for the term “abstract”. But it is certainly non-objective and contains active movements and vivid color. There is also a suggestion of post pop-psychedelic fantasy combined with geometric lines and planes. The probable process is a mental recording of shapes and forms that are stored in the visual center of my brain. So then when starting with a blank canvas I am influenced by memory in the regard that I am not painting from a landscape but from reality both outward and cellular, reconfigured and reorganized. The imagery I create is often floating or deliberately overlapped. I see the forms that appear as microcosms and macrocosms. The movement in my work is guided by changing hues and patterns. I use artistic intuition to create a rhythm in the work. |
